Personality:
Jared is a good man. He helps people when he can, though if he were to tell the truth, it’s a rare occasion. Seeing people in need breaks his heart, but most of the time he lies to himself, telling himself there’s nothing he can do or that someone else will help the person. Though most of the time, he’ll just flat out ignore the person and continue on his way.
If he can, he avoids fighting. Mainly because his powers are useless in a fight. He knows basic defense combat, but if it comes to anything requiring more than that, he will run before he tries to fight. Though because of his peaceful nature, he rarely gets into fights unless someone if intent on fighting him.
When it comes to other people, he tries to avoid them, avoid talking to them at the very least. The main reason he avoids them stems from a deep seated fear of ‘normal’ humans. He knows if they found out he was a mutant, no matter how harmless his power was, they would put him in a prison or worse. As evening nears, he becomes more and more nervous and edgy, often to the point where he gets stares from people on the street who think he’s a junkie in need of a fix. Their looks are part of the reason he feels this way.

What I can Do and Can't
Powers:Jared transforms into an albino Ferret. The change is very painful as his body shrinks and shifts. As a Ferret, his eyesight is terrible, being the same as any normal ferret’s. He can’t see more than a couple feet away and he has no depth perception, meaning in his ferret form, it’s very likely that he’ll fall off of anything he climbs onto. The change always happens at a random time and once started at that random time, he's unable to stop it. He is able to change forms at will, however, but he rarely does so.
The only advantage that comes with his powers is that he fan talk to animals in both his human and his ferret form. He understands mammals easiest, but with effort, he can talk to other kinds of animals too.
Abilities:He’s talented when it comes to working with animals, even without his ability to talk to them. He works in a veterinary clinic, taking care of animals after operations.
Weaknesses:He's vulnerable when he transforms unwillingly. These transformations leave him dazed and weakened and if attacked before he can regain his bearings, he's helpless.
Next to his dazed state, he's most vulnerable in mid transformation. The pain has become a non issue for him, what causes the most trouble for him, though, is his body shifting. It never happens the same way twice in a row, so when running, he could find his legs shrinking out from under him.
His fear of people is what usually hurts him the most. He’s always so distant from people that they don’t know him and he won’t feel comfortable asking for help.
What Happened to Me
Growing up, Jared was a normal child. He went to school, he had friends, he was even on the basketball team, having always been taller than average. He had a close relationship with his older brother, who had looked out for him when he was growing up and in grade school. The two of them were nearly inseparable. But everything changed when Jared’s mutation surfaced.
The two boys were out in the driveway practicing basketball, since Jared had an important game coming up for the Sr. Varsity team. The two were playing out past sunset and as the last sliver of sun sank beneath the horizon, Jared suddenly doubled over, screaming in pain. His screams brought his family outside. As they watched, fur sprouted over his body and he began shrinking, going from 5'10" to just under two feet long. By this time, the fur had grown completely as his nose pushed out into a snout, his eyes turning red, a tail sprouting from the base of his spine. It all happened in less than a minute, but it was agony to Jared and horrific for his family. When the small ferret poked his nose out, his family tried desperately to talk to him, to try and get him to show that he understood them, but no answer came.
They waited all night, hoping their son would return to normal. As the sun began to rise, Jared returned to his normal state. His parents tried to shrug it off, claim that everything was ok and they had no reason to worry. But when it happened again the next night, Jared could feel how distant his family were starting to become. Their son was a mutant. A freak of nature. They kept his mutation secret from the public, but their distancing began to have an effect on him and he grew more and more distant from his friends.
By the time he graduated high school, Jared had distanced himself so much that he didn’t have any of his friends left at his side. He moved out, going across the country to attend college. By this time, he’d discovered his ability to speak to animals and decided to use it in the Veterinary field, starting to work with the animals after operations and in recovery. Again he had no friends in college because of how distanced he was from them.
When the government began rounding up the X-men and other mutants, Jared receded even farther into himself. So much so that he rarely spoke to anything bipedal. It was a long while before he dared to venture out beyond going to the clinic and back. Though lately, he has gathered the courage to wander to places nearby, like the grocery store or park.

Jared walked silently along the street, the bag of groceries clutched tightly in his arms. He weaved a little, avoiding people as he walked. Several people glanced at him and avoided him anyway, finding his behavior nerve wracking. Being so distracted, he grunted a little as his foot caught a lip of the sidewalk and he fell to the ground, spilling the groceries. Sighing a little, he started gathering things up, glancing around as people just kept walking by. Looking around, he realized he was missing one more thing. After a moment, he looked up a little and saw someone crouched in front of him, holding the can out for him to take. Tentatively, he reached out and took it.
“Um... thanks...”
